EGF services in Northern Ostrobothnia
The European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF) grants assistance in situations of major structural change. It provides support in the form of retraining, repositioning and job seeking for people who have lost their jobs as a result of structural changes in world trade and the global financial and economic crises. Assistance is granted from the EGF for active labour market measures, such as mentoring, training, promoting mobility, providing pay subsidies and supporting entrepreneurial activity. EGF-funded services are in practice normal services of Employment and Economic Development (TE) Offices which are tailored and targeted to meet the needs of EGF clients.
Northern Ostrobothnia has two ongoing EGF-funded projects promoting employment among people who have lost their jobs in the ICT sector: the software sector and Nokia EGF projects. There is also an application underway for a retail sector EGF project that would operate throughout Finland.
In Finland, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment has applied for EGF funding from the EU. Project management is the responsibility of the Centres for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment, while services are provided by TE offices.
